  2. Objectives • Demonstrate communication skills in building and maintaining healthy relationships. • Demonstrate refusal strategies and conflict resolution skills • Apply self-management strategies • Analyze influences on behavior • Develop evaluation criteria for health information.

Interpersonal Skills(the exchange of thought, feelings, and beliefs between two or more people) • Everyone needs to be a good communicator • Clearly say what you mean • Pay attention to how you say something • Be a good listener • Refusal Skills-a communication strategies that can help you say no. • Conflict resolution-the process of ending a conflict through cooperation and problem solving.

Self-Management Skills • Taking responsibility for your health and act in specific ways to promote your wellness • Practicing Healthful Behaviors • Expressing your feelings in healthful ways, building your self-esteem, and maintaining healthy relationships. • Managing Stress • Finding ways to overcome negative effects of stress. • Physical activity, listening to soothing music, managing time effectively, taking a warm bath, and laughing

Analyzing Influences • Many factors influence your health • Internal influences • Your knowledge, values, likes, dislikes, and desires based on your experiences and your perspective on life. • External influences • Includes your family, friends, peers, your envirnoment, your culture, laws, and the media.

  6. Accessing Information • Learn to find trustworthy information. It will help you be prepared to make healthful choices about your life. Always check the validity of the source. Some reliable sources include: • Parents, guardians, and other trusted adults • Library resources such as nonfiction books, science, medical, nutrition, and fitness • Reliable internet sites posted by the government and educational institutions • Newspaper and magazines by health professionals • Government agencies, health care providers, and health organizations

  7. Advocacy • Taking action to influence others to address a health-related concern or to support a health related belief. • You can help others become informed and publicly support health causes that concern and interest you.
