To empower the Heartside community to become healthier through nutrition education and providing access to healthy food.

Mission


What is the need

Nationwide:

  • Each year, well over 100 billion pounds of food are thrown away in this country.

  • Some estimates indicate that up to 40 percent of America’s entire food supply goes to waste.

    Meanwhile, in Heartside:

  • Approximately 80% of the population is food insecure;

  • And, 45% of the population lives below the poverty line with 76.1% of 18-64 year olds living in poverty.

Improve access to healthy food in the Heartside neighborhood through gleaning
