Context RésEau project results from the request formulated by Ministry of Water of Chad to the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in January 2010, concerning the implementation of a project intended on the one hand to reinforce the national capacities in the field of water resources management , and on the other hand to extend the study carried out by UNOSAT in 2005 for UNHCR to improve water potential in existing refugee camps.

  3. Objectives • Improved knowledge of water resources to consolidate and develop initiatives in the sector • Strengthening national capacities in the fields of geology, hydrogeology and geographic information systems (GIS). • Better management of groundwater and surface water.

  4. RésEau: 9 years programme • Phase 1 : 2012 – 2015 Hydrogeology over North and East • Phase 2 : 2015 – 2018 Water quality • Phase 3 : 2018 – 2021 Water management RésEAU I: North and East of Chad

Institutional settings • The project is co-financed by the Republic of Chad (18%) and the Swiss Confederation, for a total of CHF 4.7M • Governance bodies : • Steering committee • Scientific committee • Comité de lecture • Contracting authority: Ministry of Hydraulics (MHUR) • Contractor: UNITAR – UNOSAT.
