  4. Tubular Sequence • Seminiferous tubules • Rete • Epididymis – 20 feet long, 10 to 14 days to travel. • Vas deferens – 18 inches • Ejaculatory duct • Urethra • Total travel time = (64 to 72 days)

  5. Leydig cells produce Testosterone. Sertoli cells (sustentacular) Create blood testes barrier And nourish spermatocytes.

  6. Male Accessory Glands • Seminal vesicles – alkaline fluid with fructose, ascorbic acid and enzymes. • Prostate – secretes citrate, enzymes and PSA. • Bulbourethral (Cowper’s) Gland – neutralizes acids. _______________________________ Semen = 2 to 5 ml with 50 to 130 million sperm per ml.

  7. Hormones: • FSH = follicle stimulating hormone • acts on Sertoli cells • 2. LH = luteinizing hormone that acts on • Leydig cells to secrete testosterone. • 3. Inhibin
