Started NGO “THERISSA WOMEN DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY” in the year 2004 • Became sarpanch in August, 2006 • In the beginning , Gram Panchayat Secretary disregarded as I belong to SC community and also due to lack of knowledge about roles and responsibilitities of Gram Panchayat Sarpanch • AMR-APARD had given training to sarpanches in the month of Dec,2006 • As a woman sarpanch, I was very much concerned about liquor consumption in the village • Banned liquor sale points in the village in the month of Jan,2007 • Actively involved in getting sanction of pensions under NSAP/INDIRAMMA, houses under Indira Awas Yojana (IAY)/INDIRAMMA,individual household toilets under Total sanitation Campaign(TSC) , Drinking water projects under National Rural Drinking water Programme (NRDWP),MGNREGS • Per annum Investment for welfare and development activities in the village was enhanced from Rs 1,50,000 in 2006 to Rs 70,00,000 in 2011. • Acted as resource person in sarpanch training programmes

Attended 3-day orientation workshop at APARD under Lab – to - Land Initiative • Selected 10 volunteers for training at APARD • Trained BNVs have shared their training experiences • 10 Trained BNVs have proposed to me to take up voluntary activities like ban on plastic use, avenue plantation and immediately taken up in the village • These activities were covered in the local daily news papers. • Having known through the daily news papers, the neighboring Gram Panchayats’ Sarpanches have enquired about the concept and voluntary work done by youth in our village. • After seeing the activities done by 10 volunteers, 15 volunteers have come forward to enroll as BNVs including myself • Now , there are 25 BNVs in village

WHY BNVs WANT TO DO VOLUNTARY WORK • Gaining knowledge • Opportunity to interact with the Officials • Widen scope for job search • Recognition from community • Respect from community • Helps in unity among volunteers • Gain self-confidence due to team work • Parents feel proud of their sons’/daugthers’ voluntary work in their own village • Scope for growth in the ladder of elected representative posts

BNVs are interacting with the attached families • Identified local needs • Formation of committees like education committee , sanitaion committee, liquor prohibition committee, water supply committee , electricity committee • Campaign against corruption • Ensuring qualitative and timely service delivery to the target people by the government departments • BNVs are attending to resolving disputes locally • Facilitated in conducting health camps • BNVs are attending to activities like arranging chairs,tables and other requirements whenever any meeting held by different departments/NGOs
