Advanced Placement (Senior High) This program enables students to write challenging, internationally recognized examinations in order to receive advanced standing at North American universities Eastglen Jasper Place Millwoods Christian Queen Elizabeth Strathcona WP Wagner What is Pre-AP and AP? AP vs IB • Differences: • AP is Advanced Placement while IB is International Baccalaureate • AP is more well known in North America while IB is more well known world wide • There are different assessment requirements for each AP and IB • Similarities: • Both AP and IB are equally advanced • Both provide advanced standing at University level • Pre–AP or Middle Years IB is NOT required for entry into a high school AP or IB program • Pre–AP students may be eligible for high school AP OR IB

Pre-AP Student Profile This program is intended for students who: • want a more academically challenging program; • are self- directed learners, capable of self-reflection; • wish to broaden their intellectual and international perspectives; • want to develop high level skills that enable them to become life-long learners; • seek an environment of like- minded peers.

Pre-AP Entrance Requirements • Achieving at or near honours level, above grade level on HLAT’s and achieving high levels of success on the PAT’s (Provincial Achievement Exams) • Teacher recommendation • Parental support • Willingness to commit to volunteer activities and increased rigor; work load • Student letter: one page letter of ‘intent’
