  1. Heidi PaciniStaff Engineer Proposed Pumped Storage Model Inputs October 12, 2011 HMTF Conference Call

  2. Pumped Storage Plants for the TEPPC 2022 Dataset • Existing • CA: Castaic, Helms, Eastwood, San Luis • AZ: Horse Mesa, Mormon Flat, Waddell • CO: Cabin Creek, Mount Elbert, Northern CO Water Conservatory District Pump (Flatiron) • Under Construction • CA: Hodges-Olivenhain Pump Storage

  3. Pumped Storage Model Inputs Available • Min/maxpumping capacity • Min/max generating capacity • Capacity segments between min/max • Input/output efficiency • Energy needed to fill reservoir • Minimum reservoir level • Type of refill cycle (daily/weekly) • Contribution to spinning reserve • Minimum savings required • Operating mode (set hours for pump/gen, or economic) Inputs in green will be defined for all plants. Additional inputs may be defined if the necessary information is available.

  4. Proposed Model Inputs - Castaic

  5. Proposed Model Inputs - Helms

  6. Proposed Model Inputs - Eastwood

  7. Proposed Model Inputs - San Luis Reservoir (Gianelli) CAISO models Gianelli using a fixed schedule, but this schedule is confidential. Xiaobo Wang at the CAISO has graciously agreed to provide a “masked” schedule based on 2005 historical data.

  8. Proposed Model Inputs – Hodges-Olivenhain (Under Construction) *Best estimate, at this point
