Understanding Cardiac Arrest: The Role of Cardiovascular Disease in Premature Death

Cardiovascular disease accounts for around 40% of all deaths under the age of 75 years. In many cases of cardiac collapse, the heart rhythm is ventricular fibrillation (VF) or ventricular tachycardia (VT), which are shockable rhythms. However, in-hospital cardiac arrests are more often associated with non-VF/VT rhythms. This highlights the critical nature of cardiovascular health and the differing scenarios between out-of-hospital and in-hospital cardiac events. Recognizing these patterns can inform prevention and treatment strategies.
