  1. To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. He has shown all you people what is good,And what does the Lord require of you? Micah 6:8

  2. Understanding of God’s calling : Career/vocation and fulltime in ministry Breakthrough 1

  3. Kingdom vision: “Salt and light” of the world. Understanding, and transforming culture. Integrating the gospel and caring of our community – hence CCHC Breakthrough 2

  4. Breakthrough 33. Re-think gender culture in light of “Creation – Fall – Redemption”Gender Injustice:OrphansDVHT

  5. Human Trafficking “Trafficking in persons is a modern-day form of slavery, a new type of global slave trade. Perpetrators prey on the most weak among us, primarily women and children, for profit and gain …” – Condoleezza Rice, 2007

  6. Sexual trafficking and prostitution - the ultimate violence against women. In June 2006: estimated 600,000 to 2,000,000 women and children are trafficked across international borders every year (this number does not include millions trafficked within their own countries). 80% of these transnational victims are women and girls. Most of them end up in forced prostitution, and sexual exploitation.

  7. “Sex trafficking … in which a commercial sex act is induced by force, fraud, or coercion, or in which the person induced to perform such an act has not attained 18 years of age.” Defined by the TVPA (Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000)

  8. Scope and Magnitude • The dark nature of the trade makes it impossible to obtain accurate data or precise statistics on the extent of the problem. • Whatever we know is but the tip of the iceberg. • No country or region in the world is unaffected. • They are either a destination country, or a transit country, or a sending country. Many countries can be all three, or any of the two.

  9. How about USA ? • Estimated 14,500 to 17,500 men, women, and children are trafficked into US each year, primarily for the sex industry. • With low risk and high profit potential, HT may well become the new crime of choice. • Young women can be sold for US$16,000 each. They are forced to work off “debts” to traffickers of US$40,000 by serving dozens of men per day. • It is a multi-billion dollars industry !!!

  10. “For…I was naked and you gave me clothing…. Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these…, you did it to me.” (NRS Mat 25:35- 40) A Mission Trip Report by Lily Lee Daughters of Cambodia They are precious in God’s sight …

  12. Phnom Penh, the City Lily & Debbie in front of Palace The only “bus” in town The exotic tropical fruit The busy market place

  13. Choeung Ek Genocidal Center The Killing Field

  14. Cambodia, a beautiful country, was shattered by decades of civil war and unrest … Though apparently moving forward from past horrors of genocide and “Killing Field” to roads of recovery and reconstruction … What keeps on silently and painfully threatening Cambodia is ... From “Killing Field” to …

  15. “Ranked as one of the highest rates of human trafficking country in the world,” Cambodia is “a source, destination, and transit country for women and children trafficked for the purposes of Commercial Sexual Exploitation (CSE).” – The US Department of State. There are 80,000 to 100,000 CSE workers in Cambodia and 80% are under the age of 18 - Cambodia Research Network – CRN, 2007 … Commercial Sexual Exploitation (CSE)

  16. The NGO Joint Statistics Project 2005-2006 collected from 25 NGOs representing 63 shelters, referral agencies, and legal aid NGOs in 17 Provinces Statisticsthe following 5 slides are results from:

  17. 1. Nationality of CSE Women and Girls

  18. 2. Reasons for Recruitment of Victims (N = 130)

  19. 3. Types of AbuseTrafficked Victims subjected

  20. 4. Method of Release from trafficking situation (N = 131) Rescued 87%

  21. 5. Illiteracy Rate 32 % for trafficked CSE Women and Girls

  22. CSE has to be condemned, because … • It is the image of God in these women and girls that has been violated and damaged. • The damages inflicted are not just physical, but also spiritual, which is hurtful to the core of the soul. • Double victimization – they are sinned against; yet at the same time, blamed for being sinful.

  23. What should we do?To combat this global “human evil” - Too gigantic a task and too extensive a scope for any single person, or any single church, or any single organization to handle. The political power that’s behind itProfitable industry (over 20 billion dollars)Dark power of organized crime (snakehead gangs) …

  24. Example of Jesus … A story of two healed by JesusThe story of the woman suffering from hemorrhage for 12 years …. Is inserted in between …The story of Jairus’ 12 yrs old daughter(Mk 7:21-34 ; Lk 8 : 40-5)

  25. Both 12 years, but two different lives …Jairus’ daughter – a happy 12 years Hemorrhage woman – a miserable 12 years Both were sick and couldn’t be healed …Jairus’ daughter – family & friends mourn Hemorrhage woman – deserted by all Both came to Jesus, both were healed …Jairus pleaded – whole family blessed Hemorrhage woman touched Jesus – made whole physically, emotionally and spiritually!

  26. Jesus’ heart :Though both were healed …Jesus “stopped” on his way to Jairus’ house and cared for the hemorrhage woman first!

  27. 1. Jesus let her “touched” his garment – Transformed discriminatory mentality of the time2. Encouraged to testified before crowd –Psychologically healed – self image restored3. Physical needs met –Bleeding stopped - made whole and healed4. “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.” –Spiritually made whole – salvation. Jesus’ ministry model

  29. Needs, Vision & Proposals Two Urgent Needs 1. To re-build the lives of rescued CSE victims holistically, then integrate them back to society. 2. To provide preventive family education and living skills for girls and women in the community. …

  30. In the New Testament, The term “pleroma” plhroma in Greek, translated “fullness” in English, is often used to describe a characteristic of God, as manifested in the incarnate Christ, being filled with the glory of grace and truth. Vision Pleroma The Word became flesh and made his dwelling (pitched a tent) among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only , who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)

  31. Proposal #1: Pleroma Home for Girls 豐榮女兒之家 Set up a safe haven for girls under 18, who have been victims or at high risk for being victims of sexual trafficking, in which they will be nurtured holistically to realize their full potential as God’s precious daughters, and experience the fullness of God in Christ for them, with the glorious image of God restored to them. • Provide holistic Christian • formation: • Enabling them to grow • physically, mentally, • socially, intellectually • and spiritually. • Provide vocational • training: • Empowering them toward • self-sufficiency and • integration into society.

  32. Proposal #2: Pleroma Women Center 豐榮婦女中心 Set up a women center nearby the Home for Girls to reach out to the community. This will provide us a window to work closely with the local churches and community for evangelizing and empowering girls and women, as well as to establish FiCF’s credibility in the community. Conduct Preventive Workshops: Educating women and girls in local factories and community, e.g. self-identity and worth, parenting, home management, hygiene and nutrition, computer literacy, etc..Long-term Goals: Train “victims” to be missionaries to minister to the trafficked victims; encourage Christian businessmen and women to set up factories to provide job opportunities for them.
