how does it work
How does it work?
  • The power supply (or PSU) is essentially the heart of a computer - it provides the electric power for all essential computer components, such as the processor, motherboard, memory modules, video card and add-in cards, as well as hard drives and optical drives. The computer power supply converts an alternative current (AC) into a specified voltage direct current (DC).
why is it important
Why is it important?
  • Many users do not treat the computer power supply very seriously because there aren’t that many good improvements but high quality power supply with enough power capacity ensures the functionality of your equipments as well as their reliability and durability. On the other hand, many problems and malfunctions are caused by low quality or under-powered PSUs. For instance, a defective power supply can result in random system resets and freezes. Making lots of people frustrated.
typical specifications
Typical Specifications
  • A power supply always comes with 4 connecters
future trends
Future Trends
  • Power supplies do not have very good new features or direct performance improvements to a computer system now a day’s people focus more on the efficiency.
  • A power supply with a higher efficiency will not only help save costs - the heat dissipated will be much lower as well, resulting in better reliability and durability.
  • Currently there are some companies working on 100% efficient power supplies.
  • Power supplies were created in the 1970s
  • Hardware started to become more advanced and needed outside power to run, then came the power supply
  • Since then many different types have been created for ex; ATX, IBM PC, and XT.
