  1. 1.5 How Do You See It? Pg. 16 Spatial Visualization and Reflections

  2. 1.5 – How Do You See It?_______________ Spatial Visualization and Reflections Reflection can create many beautiful and interesting shapes and can help you will learn more about the characteristics of other shapes. However, sometimes it is difficult to predict what a reflection look like. This is where spatial visualization plays an important role. Visualizing, the act of “picturing” something in your mind, is often helpful when working with shapes.

  3. 1.25 – REFLECTIONS Shapes can be created by a reflection. For example, the diagram at right shows the result of reflecting a snowman across a line. • a. Why do you think the image is called a reflection? How is the image different from the original? Shape is flipped, like in a mirror

  4. b. Use your visualization skills to imagine the reflection of each shape across the given line of reflection. Then draw the reflection. Check your work by folding the paper along the line of reflection.

  5. Flip a shape over a line

  9. (-1, 2) (-4, 4) (-3, 1)

  10. (1, 2) (-2, 4) (-1, 1)

  11. (-3, -1) (-4, 2) (0, 3)

  14. Geogebra Reflection

  15. 1.27 – LINE OF REFLECTION Using the following graphs, determine the equation of the line the graph was reflected in.

  16. y - axis

  17. x - axis

  18. x = 2

  19. 1.28 – LINE SYMMETRY A shape has line symmetry if the shape can fold on a line and match perfectly with itself. Determine if the shapes have line symmetry. If it does, state how many lines of symmetry. If it does not, say no.
