  3. Advantages of Network • It Makes the work more flexible an easy • Via Network , you can share : • Files • Applications • Disk Storage Space • Printers

  4. (Local Area Network) LAN • A type of network that link computers in the same site.

  5. (Wide Area Network) WAN • A type of network that links computers in more than company and link computers in different cities or countries

  6. Client/Server • This term relates to the type of network which resources are kept centrally on the server and used locally by the client. • The server tends to be very powerful PC while each client workstation

  7. Intranet • A small version of the Internet • It's an internal network Using some of Internet services such as Email and Web in one company or one location • It can be accessed by authorized user

  8. Extranet • A network that using some of internet services such as Email and Web to share data between organizations • It can be accessed by authorized users

Internet • A collection of vast global network • A network that grew out of the American Military • Later adopted by the educational system . • Now exploited by the commercial world. • World Wide Web (WWW) is just a small part of the Internet as a whole • It provides services such as : 1- Email 2-E_commerce

  14. Disadvantages of E-Commerce • The consumer Covers the cost of returning goods • It's more difficult to return goods purchased online than goods bought in as shop • Fraud

  19. Public Switched Telephone Network ( PSTN ) • Is the public telephone system. • Its based on traditional ‘copper wire’ technology and transmit analogue voice data only .

  20. Public Switched Data Network (PSDN) • Is simply the technical name for the telephone system in use today. • Can transmit Digital data.

  21. Integrated Services Digital Network ( ISDN ) • Allows much faster transfer rates than using modems .

Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line ( ADSL ) • A more recent technology which allows more data to be sent over existing copper telephone lines. • Requires special ADSL modem. • Allows data transfer rates of ranging from 0.5 to 8 Mbps when receiving data (downstream rate) and from 16 to 640 Kbps when sending data (upstream rate)

  23. Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) • DSL technology that allows faster data transfer while still using copper wires. • Speed of send equal to speed of receive.
