  4. History "In 1853, the state-funded East Florida Seminary took over the Kingsbury Academy in Ocala. The seminary moved to Gainesville in the 1860s and later was consolidated with the state's land-grant Florida Agricultural College, then in Lake City. In 1905, by legislative action, the college became a university and was moved to Gainesville. Classes first met with 102 students on the present site on Sept. 26, 1906. UF officially opened its doors to women in 1947. With more than 50,000 students, UF is now one of the largest universities in the nation." Source: University of Florida (2011)

Student Government University of Florida has a student government similar to that of the United States, in that it is separated into three branches, legislative, executive and judicial.  Their student government organizational chart can be seen here.   18. Leadership at University of Florida The University's Board of Trustees is responsible for setting policies there, select the university's president and report to the Florida Board of Governors. The President is the CEO of the university and is responsible for appointing the ten vice presidents and Chief Audit Executive.  Each of the vice presidents and the Chief Audit Executive derive their authority from their appointment by and delegation of the university president.  Source: University of Florida (2004)

  28. Developmental and Continuing • The Developmental Education offered by the University of Florida is more Continuing Education and Professional Development than Learning support. I was unable to find information about learning Support at University of Florida. • The Professional Development and Continuing Education programs offered at University of Florida are mostly online programs. • "Professional Development offers non-credit pre-licensure and pre-certification programs and courses for those interested in improving their professional skills, seeking a credential, or searching for a change in career." • Professional Development has an open enrollment policy, allowing students to start their courses whenever it is convenient. • Many of the Professional Development and Continuing Education programs are specific to and regulated by related departments within the university. Center for Community Education "The mission of the Center for Community Education (CCE) is to promote the continued development of community education and community schools by providing research, materials development, and technical assistance at the local, state, national, and international levels. CCE’s mission is aligned with the advancement of the COE’s mission by collaborating with others to solve educational and human problems in a diverse global community. CCE uses a collaborative approach in planning, providing, and evaluating educational programs and services to emphasize the significant role that community based education and full-service schools can play in helping to close the achievement gap among children who live in very distressed communities."
