Hebrews 12:18-29 • 18 For you have not come to the mountain that may be touched and that burned with fire, … • 22-24 But you have come to … • the city of the living God, • an innumerable company of angels,  • the general assembly and church of the firstborn who areregistered in heaven, • to God, • to the spirits of just men made perfect,  • to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, • and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things …

  4. 25 See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven, 26 whose voice then shook the earth; … • 28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. 29 For our God is a consuming fire.

  5. 3 comparisons • I was there (Sinai) vs. I’ll be there (registered) What was it like the first time? V18-21 HOW can I be sure I will be there the next time? v22 Get registered in Heaven v23 HOW? Come to Jesus through the New Covenant in his blood. (v24) Get written in His book (Mal 3:16)

I refuse to listen vs. I will listen v25 • Exodus 20:19 Then they said to Moses, “You speak with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die.” • Mal 3:16 ‘Listen to me, because I am listening to you!’ • Heb 3:15 (Listen = hearken, obey ) • “Today, ifyouwillhear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” • General commands: Love & obey • Specific commands: You know! Don’t shut out His voice!

  7. 3. Consumed vs. serving God acceptably (v28-29) • Israelite rebels were consumed in the desert. That generation never reached the promised kingdom. • We are supposed to be taking & receiving an unshakeable kingdom now! • Serving God acceptably Malachi 3:14, 16-18 • ‘It is a waste of time to serve God’ • ‘my jewels’; discern between one who serves God and one who does not’

The only was is to be registered in Heaven and to listen for His voice so you can serve acceptably

  9. CONCLUSION Looking to Jesus • Are you registered Come to Jesus 2. Are you listening 听话? What is He saying today? 3. Are you serving acceptably? How will He rate your service this week?
