Tim Burton • American film director, film producer, writer and artist • Famous for dark, quirky themed movies such as Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Sweeney Todd, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland • Tim Burton often uses his close friend Johnny Depp in most of his Blockbuster movies
Before Burton started directing movies, he was an animator for Disney. He was any good at it and that literally drove him mad. He was supposed to draw foxes in a certain way, but they all turned out, as Tim elegantly put it, looking like roadkill. • Most of his movies are based around a character that doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the world, because Tim himself grew up feeling like an outcast. This is most noticeable in Edward Scissorhands.
Building Characters • Burton and his designers start by creating small sculptures of the characters • He brings the characters to life using stop-motion animation • The object is moved in small increments between individually photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames is played as a continuous sequence.
