Salinas means salt mash in Spanish because of the large slough that ran in the area.

Ranching

Most ranches in the 1930s consistence of two barns, a command house, and a bunk house for hired help.

The bunk houses were discussing and were filled with hay. Most of the time the help did not live alone and their homes were infested with mice, fleas, bed bugs, lice, termites, and other vermin. Plus most of the time it had dust in every square inch. But every once and a while there were maids to clean the house.
