  2. Aim of today’s lesson • Aim of the lesson: • To inform you about doorstep safety • By the end of the lesson you should: • Know what bogus callers are and what tricks they use. • Know about doorstep safety • Be able to recall the 3 steps to stay safe from bogus callers

  3. Callers at the door and doorstep safety • ‘When the door bell rings or you hear knocking at the door, who goes to answer it?’

  4. Safety at the door • Who comes to the door? • What do they look like? • What do they wear? • Do people you don’t know come to the door? • What do they want? • How do you know they are telling the truth? • How do you think you or your family can check that these people are telling the truth?

  5. Some callers at the door….. • What tricks do you think they could use to get into your home?

  6. They may claim to :- Be hurt Be Thirsty Need help Have lost a ball or toy Need the toilet Feels unwell

  7. THEY MAY CLAIM TO BE/FROM: The Police A salesperson Repair / Builder / Trader The Council Charity Collector Water, Gas or Electric Supplier

  8. Callers at the door • These people have a name. • Does anyone know what it is? • BOGUS CALLERS OR ROGUE TRADERS

  9. Doorstep Safety • What do you think people can do to stop these people tricking their way into homes?

  10. Locked Make sure our doors are locked at all times

  11. Look Always check through a window or door viewer to see if you know the person calling at the door

  12. Get an Adult • If you don’t know the person, ask an adult to answer the door.

  13. All together now……… • LOCKED • LOOK • GET AN ADULT

  14. Role play • We need 3 people to help us act out a role play, teacher can you please choose 3 volunteers?

  15. Role play questions • Do you think the caller was telling the truth and why? • Should they have let the caller in? • Is there anything else that the adult should do? • Is there anything else the adult could have done to answer the door safely?

  16. Knowledge check • Throw the beanbag/ball to somebody in your class, when you catch the beanbag/ball can you answer the following question: • What tricks do bogus callers use? • What are 3 doorstep safety steps we should take when there is a caller at the door?

  17. Activity Leaflets • If you talk to the adults in your house about what you have learnt, and to grandparents or older neighbours you will have done your bit!
