  1. Sanford Creek 5th Grade Haw River Field Trip ~ 2014

  2. 2014 Dates • Tracks 3 & 4 ~ March 25 – March 26 • Track 1 ~ April 16 – April 17

  3. Transportation • Daniels Tours, LLC • We schedule 2 buses per trip with the assumption that all students in all classes will attend the trip • The number of students determines the number of buses and remaining seats available for chaperones • We will need one parent from each trip to drive in order to provide emergency transportation if necessary

  4. Time • We leave on the morning of the trip at approximately 7:30 am. • We return the next day at approximately 3:00 pm, allowing time for bus students to ride the bus • On departure day, Parents will drop off their student and luggage and check in with their student’s teacher before leaving • On our return to school, parents may pick up their student and luggage after checking out with their student’s teacher.

  5. Medications • Students needing medications administered while on the trip, must have Form 1702 (Parent Request and Physician’s Order Form for Medication) completed by your physician and sent with the medication. Medications can ONLY be administered by the teacher when accompanied by this form. (This includes Over the Counter medications) • The only exception to this, is if the parent is accompanying the student on the trip, in which case the parent may administer the meds.

  6. Cost • The estimated cost for the trip is $125.00. • This includes the $65.00 Haw River payment + 60.00 for the bus. • Haw River charges only the student’s attending • Daniels Transportation charges by the bus. • The cost per student for transportation is determined by the number of students who go on the trip. • The bus cost is ESTIMATED at this time

  7. Reservation • To hold your student’s reservation, we ask that the Haw River portion of the cost be paid by December 3, 2013. • After December 3, we can calculate the cost for the bus based on the number of student reservations received. • Chaperone cost will also be calculated at that time

  8. Refunds • Payments made CANNOT be refunded • Dr. Council may make exceptions to this stipulation on a case-by-case situation

  9. Chaperones • We need MALE and female chaperones • Our goal is to place at least two chaperones in each cabin • Chaperones WILL sleep in the cabins • Male chaperones assigned to the boys’ cabins • Female chaperones assigned to the girls’ cabins • We will have a chaperone meeting at a later date

  10. Chaperone Responsibilities • Students MUST be supervised by an adult at ALL times • During scheduled activities, chaperones serve as support to the Haw River Instructors • The Haw River Instructors will manage the students’ learning and behavior • Please report any issues to the teachers • A chaperone meeting will be held

  11. Communication • While at Haw River, cell phone service is spotty, at best • We will do our best to communicate safe arrival, or any issues through texting or a phone tree • Haw River Instructors carry walkie-talkies for any necessary communication during hikes/outdoor activities

  12. Emergency Plan • The 5th grade team has developed an emergency plan • The designated parent driver will transport students in the event of an emergency • Haw River also has an emergency phone available • At least one teacher on each trip has had First Aid Training and is CPR certified

  13. Schedule • Learning Groups • Table Groups • Cabin Groups • Lights out

  14. Instruction • Every class is aligned with the Common Core Science and Social Studies State Standards • Each activity from the moment the bus arrives, until we leave the parking lot is well-organized and executed • Students are exposed to a variety of hands-on indoor and outdoor experiences
