Branch Purpose & Objectives • Mobilise and empower business • Support needs of vulnerable industries & SMMEs • Coordinate sectoral initiatives • Promote multi-sectoral collaboration • Strengthen business participation on PAC • Adopt & oversee strategy implementation • Facilitate monitoring & reporting

  3. Governance Protocol • Adopted by North West Steering Committee on 21 April 2011 • Provides for: • establishment of SABCOHA North West Branch • appointment of provincial Board of Governors

  4. Board Composition • Not less than 4 and not more than business sector representatives • One seat reserved for each district (4) • Diversity sought re: • Seniority • Discipline (field of study) • Industry • Company size

  5. Proceedings • The PBOG is to meet quarterly • Annual meeting schedule agreed in advance • Teleconference facilities may be used • 1 meeting per annum takes place in person.

  6. Duties of Governors • Represent business interests • Adopt business strategy • Amend governance protocol as necessary • Oversee strategy implementation • Advocate for business participation • Share information & provide feedback

  7. Commitment of Governors • 3 hours per quarter in scheduled PBOG meeting • Ad hoc communication with secretariat • Representing SABCOHA at certain events • Set the example to business in the province through participation and leadership

  8. Election and appointment • Election is from the business sector only • Must have support of principal • Governors shall hold office for a period of three years • Board of governors shall designate representatives to the multi-sectoral Provincial Council on AIDS (PCA)

  9. Executive committee • PBOG shall elect a chairperson, vice-chairman and secretary • The chairperson shall preside at meetings, have a casting vote • Chair and vice-chair to participate in 1 hour preparatory calls prior to PBOG meetings

  10. Leadership • The process in the province thus far needs the support and leadership of business in the North West.
