  1. CEFPI is a Registered Provider with The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education Systems (AIA/CES). Credit(s) earned on completion of this program will be reported to AIA/CES for AIA members. Certificates of Completion for both AIA members and non-AIA members are available upon request.This program is registered with AIA/CES for continuing professional education. Learning Objectives School Security – The Architecture of Security At the end of this program, participants will be able to: Understandthe broad threat facing schools today and how to create a concentric circle of protection to safeguard students and staff. Explore the philosophy of planning, prevention, mitigation, and response. Understand the benefits and the shortcomings of technology, relative to safeguarding people. Learn the basic elements of a security system:  staffing, procedures, infrastructure, and crisis communications.

Learning Objectives School Security – Designed not Applied At the end of this program, participants will be able to: Understandhow a thorough assessment led to a commitment of resources and effort that dramatically improved its security condition. Understand how a common vision for the balance between design and security can been achieved. Understandthat school security is a process of continuous review and planning that begins with designers but must be implemented at the school level. Learnthat a combination of approaches ranging from site planning to advanced technology has effectively raised the community’s perception of a safe school district.

Learning Objectives School Security – Tour of Fauquier High School At the end of this program, participants will be able to: Understandthe opportunities and challenges of modernizing a 50 year old high school to achieve a unified, safe and secure campus. Understand sustainable design features incorporated into a renovated/expanded high school. Understanddesign features and acoustical considerations incorporated into a performing arts wing. Gain an understanding of design solutions that promote wellness through indoor/outdoor activity, air quality and daylighting.
