Downloading and Installing Autodesk Inventor Professional

1. Downloading and Installing Autodesk Inventor Professional This is a 4 step process Register with the Autodesk Student Community Downloading the software Install the Software Registering the software

2. Downloading and Installing Autodesk Inventor Professional Step 1 You should have received an email from me with a link that will allow you to register for the Autodesk Student Center. This is an Autodesk site and is not connected with The Potters School. As a student, you are entitled to download and install a student version of the software for educational purposes. Click on the link to open the web page or copy the link and paste it into the address bar of your browser.

3. The link should take you to a page similar to this. You need to fill in your email address twice and select that you are a student in the above boxes. Then click Continue to Step 2

4. Fill in your First Name and Last Name Choose a user ID. You will get a message if that name is available or not. Create a Password Retype the Password Please choose an answer that you will remember Check this box Click “Continue to Step 3 and you will be sent an email automatically.

5. Check your email and open the response from Autodesk There will be a link that you are to click on to confirm your registration. When you click on the link, it will open a page where you can login. Your user name will be here You can ignore this link located here!

6. Click on the Log in and enter the user ID and the password you just created.

7. Fill in the user ID and the password and click “Sign In”

8. Congratulations, you have now completed Step 1. For Step 2, we need to download the software Click on “Get Software “

9. If you click on this New Download Center, you will get a different look. I suggest not going this route.“ Instead, click on the plus sign by Autodesk Inventor Professional!

10. Choose the version of the software. We will be using 2014

11. Then choose the language Then choose the Operating System If you do not know, go to Start and right click on My Computer and choose Properties. There you will see if you have a 32 bit or a 64 bit Operating System. Then click “Next”

13. This information is very important to finish the registration process. Write down the Serial number and Product Key that is displayed here.!!!!!!! Once you have recorded the Serial Number and the Product key, then Click Install Now

14. You should have finished the download process and the third step is to Install the software. If it does not start automatically, open Windows Explorer and browse to the folder where the software was saved. It will probably be in your download folder. There you will find the AutodeskDownloadManagerSetup.exe file. You can use the “Windows Key and E”, which is a keyboard shortcut to open the browser to your C drive.

15. Double click on the AutodeskDownloadManagerSetup.exe file to begin the installation

16. Select the I agree button and click Install

17. The installation process should begin with this splash screen.

18. It will be necessary to select Launch Application to run the Installation.

19. You will be prompted to place the program in a designated location. I suggest accepting the default location and click OK.

20. Once the process begins, it will take considerable time. So take a break and get something to eat, or whatever you would like to do.

21. Once the download is complete, you will need to click the Install button to start the installation process.

22. Click the Accept button to agree with the license and click “Next”

23. Choose Stand-Alone and fill in the Serial Number and Product Key provided for at the Download Website window and click “Next”

24. Make sure AutoCAD Inventor Professional 2014 is checked and click “Next”.

25. Click on “Install” and the installation will begin. This may take considerable time!

26. During the Installation, you may get a message that some programs are interfering with the installation. Click the Automatically close application and click “OK”. If you have something open that you need to save, you should save it first and then close the program.

27. You probably will want to do something else while this is running. Depending on the speed of your internet, it could take hours.

28. Praise God, the installation was successful. But you are not finished! Clicked “Finish” to close this window.

29. You have now finished installing the software. Step 4 is to register the software. This process should be automatic when you open the software for the first time.

30. The software still has to be registered. If done properly, it should be automatic. You can open the software from the icon on your screen or by going to the Start/All Programs/Autodesk/Autodesk Inventor 2014 and click on the Autodesk Inventor Professional 2014.

31. You should get an Autodesk splash screen while the program opens. This can take several minutes.

32. Select the agree check box and click the I agree button to register the software. If this is not done, the license will only last 30 days!!!!!

34. You can uncheck the box in the lower left corner, so that you do not get this welcome window every time. Then close this window.

35. When Inventor opens, it should look like this. Click on the New icon on the far left of the ribbon.

36. Click on the Standard.ipt part file to open a new part.

37. The screen should look like this. The background color may be different. If you have grid lines, this means that you are in the sketch mode and the icons will be different. But this is the final step and you are now ready for the class to begin.
