The ANDY project has made significant strides in commissioning the Jet Trigger with over 29 million jet events recorded since February 12, 2011. The ADC from Berkeley's QT group has successfully formed a 17-bit sum from 32 channels, feeding data to the second FPGA for triggering. Issues around HCal gain reduction and channel discrepancies are being addressed. Ongoing tasks include final calibration of ECal and measuring hadronic backgrounds. The goal remains to assess the impact of 3IR operation on PHENIX/STAR luminosity and optimize jet analyzing power.

Jet Trigger Commissionedon Saturday 12 February • ADC from Berkeley group (“QT”) has FPGA used to form 17-bit sum of 12-bit ADC from each of 32 channels • 32-bit data from four QT per HCal module transferred to second FPGA board from Berkeley (DSM), where 19-bit sum of four terms is made • Threshold on 19-bit sum is then used as trigger • HCal energy scale still to be determined RHIC clock tick before trigger RHIC clock tick after trigger
Jet Trigger Events • Select from jet-trigger events for HCal “high-tower” to be centered in module • Display for each detector of each module the ADC count as color scale (black=greatest count yellow=lowest count) • Events look “jetty”, as expected
Issues and Plansfor next access possibility and beyond • Resolve a few remaining single-channel issues • Reduce HCal gain • We are in “production” now with a jet trigger >29M jet events recorded since Sunday. • No significant on luminosity at IP6,8 yet • Following access, in coming week… • ECal final calibration • Commission additional triggers
Schematic of detector for Run-11 • Equipment in place: • HCal is two existing 9x12 modules from E864 (NIM406,227) • ECal are two small lead-glass modules from BigCal at JLab • BBC (from PHOBOS) and ZDC • Preshower is newly constructed scintillator arrays • Goals: • Establish impact of 3IR operation on PHENIX/STAR luminosity • Calibrate HCal • relative gain via cosmic-ray m • absolute energy scale via r,L,KS… • Measure hadronic backgrounds to benchmark simulations • Measure jet analyzing power (Lint~10 / pb, P=50%)
