  2. What is Cocaine????? Cocaine comes from the leaves of the coca plant which you can find in South America.It is commonly seen in Australia as white odourless powder named Cocaine Hydrochloride. It is sniffed through the nose or injected. Some people rub it into their gums

  3. The effects of Cocaine Cocaine can be very harmful to people. The effects vary from person to person depending on • How much is taken • The way it is taken • The persons size weight and health • The persons experience with the drug over a period of time • Has it been taken on its own or with other drugs • Is the person alone or with others

  4. Cocaine's short term effects Cocaine is a stimulant. Its effects can last anywhere from a few minutes to several hours.its short term effects include • Exhilaration • Reduced appetite • Unpredictable or violent behaviour • Panic sexual arousal • Increased alertness and energy • Poor judgement and concentration • Indifference to pain and tiredness • Feeling indestructable • Increased heart rate and body temperature

  5. immediate effects intensify when the drug is taken in big quantities.. • Tremors • Muscle twitches • Vomiting • Rapid and weak pulse • Chest pains • Heart attacks • Hyperthermia • Seizures and strokes

  6. Long term effects include..... • Restlessness • Increased excitability • Nausea • Insomnia • Weight Loss • Psychosis • Hallucinations • Paranoia • Depression

DANGERS! • SNORTING cocaine leads to nosebleeds, and tearing of your nasal wall SMOKING it leads to lung damage chest pain , lung damage, Reading Difficulties, SHARING INJECTING EQUIPMENT e.g Needles Can Lead Too HIV And Hepatitis, LONG TERM INJECTION Of The Drug Can Lead Too Inflammation Of Blood Vessels. (if injected into skin cocaine can result in severe tissue damage)

  8. Overdoses Overdoses of cocaine vary from person to person. As little as 10mg can kill Overdoses produce these effects…………… • Irregular, faster heartbeats • Lung or heart failure • Burst blood Vessels in the brain • All these can lead to Coma or even Death

  9. Tolerance: Tolerance to cocaine develop quickly once you start using it continuously. This means you will need more of the drug to experience the same effects as before.Dependence:This is when a person becomes totally dependent on cocaine at it becomes the centre of their thoughts and activities

  10. Withdrawal Withdrawal happens when a dependent person cuts down on or stops using the drug. Symptoms include………. • Deep depression • Suicidal feelings • Shaking fits • Nausea and Vomiting • Weakness and tiredness • Hunger • Anhedonia ( inability to feel pleasure) • Irritability • Long disturbed sleep

  11. Law The state laws deem it a offence to possess , produce , supply and traffic cocaine. In Queensland it is illegal to have over two grams of cocaine as it is seen as trafficking if caught with 2 grams or more of the drug you can face up to 20 years in jail !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
