There wasn’t a day I didn’t wake up not wanting to go to work. It took me 10 years to bring Kelly from the ‘Stone Age’ ( terminals ) to the current standards; of course Frank was a big part of it, as well as the TechCrew kids. V

  15. Kelly TechCrew • Kelly HS had a Technology Crew long before Mouse Squad • Mouse Squad TechCrew started 2005-2006 school year with a crew of ten. • Grew from 10 members to 15 members during 2005-2006 • Currently there are 45 members • To join a student takes apart a Dell workstation and puts it back together without help. • Students get community service hours for participating • Students work during the summer on TechCrew through the Kidstart program • During college alumni work partti me on the TechCrew

  18. Joellen Zielazinski – Tech Department Chair/Budget Director The TechCrew has been a wonderful program for Kelly High School. With only 10 members during its initial year, 422 problems were diagnosed from October through May with a total of $46,280 in estimated cost savings to the school. This year, in only three months, 2900 problems have been diagnosed for a cost savings of $46,281 (already exceeding the savings from the entire previous school year).

  19. TechCrew Computer Repair Business

  20. Culture of the Kelly TechCrew TechCrew is a tremendous asset to the school Victor Herrera and Frank Reyes reinforce family values among the group and strength of character in the individual. TechCrew members learn to be tremendous assets to themselves. For example on the day progress report came out Frank met individually with each of the TechCrew members to discuss how they were doing academically.

  21. Testimonies Regarding the Kelly TechCrew Victor Herrera: Working with those kids to improve Kelly’s Help Desk and LAN Infrastructure was something I looked forward everyday. There wasn’t a day I didn’t wake up not wanting to go to work. It took me 10 years to bring Kelly from the ‘Stone Age’ ( terminals ) to the current standards; of course Frank was a big part of it, as well as the TechCrew kids. Bob Bednar of E Learning: (The success of)Kelly’s TechCrew IS a direct result of Victor Herrera’s and Francisco Reyes’ family-way of counseling their charges.  They actually seek out at-risk students to some extent with the intent of encouraging them to respect themselves and others as they accept the myriad responsibilities of this ‘best-practice’ TechCrew.  I know this because I manage all the CPS TechCrews, and we recently hired Victor away from Kelly because of his exemplary performance there as tech coordinator and TechCrew coach.

  22. Pedro Mota – Class of 2007: When I was a sophomore and junior, I used to have bad grades and I used to cut a lot; I got six Fs, one B, and more than 100 cuts. I really wanted to be in the club. Frankie and Victor helped me in that they always were pushing me to go to classes. Sometimes they found me cutting and they always took me to class. I am glad that Frankie and Victor helped me because now I can be in the Tech Crew and also I am passing all my classes. It was hard for me to go to the class everyday and I was always thinking that the classes were boring and useless. Now I understand that the classes are important and they will help me in the future. Frankie and Victor always helped if I had problems with my classes. Now I can easily do my work and I easily understand my work. Many times I have trouble with my homework and I have to ask Frankie or Victor and they always help me.

  23. A Self Replicating Culture He showed his interested in analyzing any problem whether it was easy or not. Gabino helped everyone in the club without expecting anything from them.He showed that if anyone really wants to learn there is no excuse not to do it. Gabino was involved in various extracurricular activities such as swimming, volleyball, martial arts, Latinos Unidos and also took some time to find a part time job; all the while maintaining a grade point average above 3.0. The Monday after his graduation weekend, Gabino started his first semester as a college student at Illinois Technical Institute. Today Gabino volunteers at Kelly High School helping the Technology Department and showing other TechCrew members the importance of a good education. Frank Torres:Gabino Noriega joined TechCrew last year, which was his senior year. Gabino showed that there should be no reason why a person should give up on something. When he started Gabino would spend hours trying to determine how to solve a problem without going to another level of support.
