  1. What to do when without power! Step by step instructions to keep you entertained and up to date.

  2. 1. Check online! Grab a smart phone or tablet (make sure that it is not powered by Wi-Fi). Go on to the website of your local power supplier. Check if they have stated if there are any faults in the power and when it would be on again.

  3. 2. If unable to do no. 1 Check with neighbours. They may have power; if so that means that what has happened is to do with your house. You might want it checked. If neighbours don’t have power as well then refer back to no. 1 with neighbours. If still unable to do no. 1 skip no.1 & 2 and carry on to 3.

  4. 3. Stay fed and warm Try not to open the fridge so much because when you do the cold air escapes causing most of the food inside to go off. So try to eat only what is in the pantry/cupboards Camping stoves and kettles are always welcome since in most stoves work using a spark or are electric. Have warm foods and drinks for example; tea, coffee, hot chocolate, toast (bread toasted over the stove), toasted sandwich and many more. Stay rugged up with blankets, jumpers, socks, beanie, gloves and thick trousers.

  5. 4. stay entertained Bring out a board game that will last a while for example; Monopoly, Scrabble, Trouble and many more. Play card games with a standard pack of cards and play a few rounds for example; Gin Rummy, 21 and many more. You can also try add your own rules to board games or even make your own game with the playing cards. Try drawing or making up stories to keep you entertained. If it is too dark light some candles or use battery powered torches/lanterns.

  6. If you follow these instructions you can turn a negative into positive! Tips: Around your house turn electrical appliances off so you don’t create a power surge when the power does come on. The power should only be off for 2 – 3 hours and with this guide you will have a fun experience when the power turns off next time! Keep windows and doors closed so you can keep the warm air inside your house

  7. 5. For the parents If your children are playing on their electronics too much then we can have some fun! Find your power box and turn all the power off. (Warning; make sure that you know what you are doing first) Go onto this website http://poweroutages.weebly.com/ to fool your kids even more that there is a power out.
