    3. What do we know about graphic organizers? What do we wonder about graphic organizers?

Graphic organizers are… Visual communication tools that use symbols to express ideas and concepts to convey meaning Made up of visual frames used to represent and organize information Depict the relationships between facts, terms, and/or ideas within a learning task Sometimes referred to as a “map” because they help teachers and students “map out” ideas in a visual manner

    5. Use of Graphic Organizers…

Graphic Organizers used as an assessment tool in science… permit the visual comparison of student understanding to expert knowledge. can be used as advanced organizers for students since they help students self-assess their current knowledge. help students make their thinking visible (developing and supporting visual learning modalities). would be more creative, challenging, and fun than traditional essay or objective style questions on tests. could also be required within presentations and projects.
