  1. Data Analysis: Part 5 Mid Unit Test Review

  2. Data Analysis: Part 5 • DATA ANALYSIS • Students will demonstrate understanding of data analysis by posing questions to be answered by collecting data. Students will organize, represent, investigate, interpret, and make inferences from data. They will use regression to analyze data and to make inferences. • MM2D1. Using sample data, students will make informal inferences about • population means and standard deviations. • a. Pose a question and collect sample data from at least two different • populations. • b. Understand and calculate the means and standard deviations of sets of data. • c. Use means and standard deviations to compare data sets.

  3. Data Analysis: Part 5 • d. Compare the means and standard deviations of random samples with the • corresponding population parameters, including those population parameters • for normal distributions. Observe that the different sample • means vary from one sample to the next. Observe that the distribution of the • sample means has less variability than the population distribution.

  4. Data Analysis: Part 5 EQ: How do you think sample size will affect the sample distribution? How does sampling affect the sample distribution? Today we learn how sample size and different types of sampling technique affect sample results!!

  5. Data Analysis: Part 5 • Activation: Name the four sampling techniques. State the similarities and differences among them.

  6. Data Analysis: Part 5 Interquartile Range- the range (difference) between the Upper Quartile Median (Q3) and the Lower Quartile Median (Q1). To Calculate Interquartile Range Step 1: Find the median for the upper and lower quartile of a data set Step 2: Subtract the lower quartile median from the upper quartile median

  7. Data Analysis: Part 5 Data Analysis can be displayed visually by the following: Box and Whisker Plot Draw a box whisker plot for three different data set on the same paper Data Set 1 : 10, 5, 20, 15, 25 Data Set 2: 40, 30,10, 5, 20, 15, 25 Data Set 3: 65,55,40,30,10,5,20,15,25

  8. Data Analysis: Part 5 How did the sample size affect the sampling distribution? • The larger a sample size the more representative of the whole population (closer to the population mean) • The larger a sample size the closer the distance (standard deviation) each data point is the mean of the whole population

  9. Data Analysis: Part 5 Entering Data into TX-30X II 2nd STAT Enter 1-VAR DATA Enter 1st data point Downward Arrow (FRQ=1) Next data points Enter

  11. Data Analysis: Part 5 Reviewing Data Points 2nd STATVAR Y Enter

  12. Data Analysis: Part 5 Facts When Comparing Sampling Size • The size of a sample affects the sample distribution • The larger the sample size, the more accurately it will reflect the total population

  13. Data Analysis: Part 5 Homework: Study for Test!!!!!!!!!

  14. Data Analysis: Part 5 Activation: Name the four sampling techniques. State the similarities and differences among them.
