  2. Writing Genre… what is it? • You are used to talking about genre in the form of the books you read.. Mystery, adventure, poetry, legal documents, etc. • A multi-genre paper is a collection of writings from all sorts of genres centered on different aspects of a book or topic.

A myriad of genres to choose from… • Wills • Letters • Poems • Birth announcements • Dialogues • Newscasts • Questionnaires • Obituaries • Song lyrics • TV commercials • Radio shows • Shopping lists • Speeches • Timelines • News releases • Medical records • Surveys • Resumes • Family trees • Dedications • Crossword puzzles

  4. Myriad… • Comic strips • Menus • Diplomas • Bumper stickers • Magazine articles • Memos • Magazine covers • Greeting cards • Police reports • Brochures • journals • CD Liners • Telegrams • Recipes • Interviews • Epitaphs • Advice columns • Wanted posters

  5. Requirements for this multi-genre • 6 (or more) Genres • Must have at least 1 poem • Must write a well-developed cover letter expressing your thoughts surrounding this unit. (750-1000+ words type-written.) • Cover sheet/title page. • Table of Contents • Presented in a nice folder. • Must be over a myriad of aspects of the Holocaust. • Due Tues. April 24 • Project = 2 test grades • There will be periodic progress checks for daily grades. (YOU WILL HAVE WARNING)

  6. Helpful Hints • Keep a pocket folder to “house” all your ideas, notes, rough drafts, and helps. • Take advantage of all work days. • Use peer editing/ revise constantly. • Research writing genres not covered in class.

Final ChecklistDue: April 24, 2012 • At least 6 (or more) Genres (+Cover Letter) • Genres are varied (I don’t want 6 poems or 6 essays) • Each piece takes a slightly different angle • Information is varied (don’t write only about 1 or 2 topics) • The Holocaust (as a historical event) is covered…the reader will learn something!

Checklist cont… • The pieces are organized in a creative way. • The cover letter contains a summary of your “experience” this last month as well as a reflection (required questions are answered) • There is at least one poem (minimum of 12 lines) • You have a well-organized Table of Contents • Folder is neatlydecorated.
