  1. REMINDERS • Period 6: Remember to turn in your warm-ups on the stool after class. • Homework: Work on your second adversity journal! • It should be done this weekend; next week, we move on to our third! • Note: No late work from October will be accepted after MONDAY.

  2. READING QUIZ Get out a piece of paper and title it: Nectar in a Sieve Quiz– Chapter 17 and 18.

  3. READING QUIZ In Chapter Eighteen, Ruku goes to visit Kenny who has come back to help the people of India with their health problems. After Ruku tells Kenny about how they’ve been struggling (their poverty, Raja’s death, etc.), Kenny tells Ruku big news about his life and later Ruku tells Kenny big news about their lives. Explain either what Kenny tells Ruku OR what Ruku tells Kenny.

  4. ENGLISH II Think/pair/share: Review Ruku and Kenny’s conversation on pages 105-107. What do Ruku and Kenny’s differences reveal about how Eastern culture thinks and how western culture thinks?

  5. NOVEMBER 2NDENGLISH II Get out your Character Chart. First, find and analyze a quote that reveals something about Kenny’s character on page 105-107. Next, find and analyze a quote that reveals something about Ruku’s character on page 105-107.

VOCABULARY Sample Sentences– Chapter Nineteen & Twenty: • When I was in high school, many of my friends would take me to parties where I would watch them drink too much; I, unlike them, was very conscientious and decided never to drink because I knew I wasn’t mature enough to handle alcohol. • Although my friends would say that I was a chicken for not getting drunk when I went to parties with them, I was unperturbed by their remarks and felt good about my choice– especially when I saw how foolish they looked. • I always felt most justified whenever my friends explained how they’d been affronted by their parents who’d ground them for the poor choices. • To speak frankly, I was glad when they got in trouble. I was glad someone was trying to punish them to attempt to stop them from looking absolutely ridiculous.
