Objectives • Overview: USDA At-Risk Afterschool Meal & Snack Program & the Summer Food Service Program • Benefits of Offering USDA Meal Programs • Grant Opportunity • Oregon Department of Education Child Nutrition Programs (ODE CNP)/Partners for a Hunger Free Oregon (PHFO) Program Support & Assistance

At-Risk Afterschool Meal & Snack Program and Summer Food Service Program Benefits to Families & Children: Healthy Nutrition: Meals meet USDA nutrition guidelines, providing a well-balanced, healthy meal; an invaluable resource for families. Enrichment/Educational Activities: Additional learning activities and programs keeping children engaged. Benefits to the Community: Safe Places for Children: Programs offer safe, supervised environments during out-of-school-time hours and in the summer, when many children may be left alone. Benefits to Sponsors: Sustainable Funding: Reimbursement funding is guaranteed from year to year as part of a federal USDA program, saving sponsors thousands of dollars in food costs.

  4. Grant Fundamentals Who can apply? Current Child Nutrition Sponsors Potential Sponsors (with sponsorship application on file with ODE CNP) Purpose of grant funds: To increase participation and/or expand access to the At-Risk Afterschool Meal & Snack Program, Summer Food Service Program & Seamless Summer Option, and NSLP Snack Program Maximum request? Organizations can apply for up to $20,000 maximum

Grant Fundamentals Application Due Dates: (funds are first come, first served!) 2014: June 2* (last chance for SFSP funds) September 15 December 15 2015: February 16 To Apply**: ODE website: www.ode.state.or.us/search/page/?id=4013 *June 2 awardees must expend all funds by Oct 2ndand make final reimbursement claims in by Nov 30th **Please read full instructions before beginning your application*

What Can I Apply For? • Food service equipment (ovens, refrigerators, tables) • Sanitation/health depart. site inspection fees and necessary repairs • Outreach activities and materials (max $1,000 per site) • Food transportation equipment (Cambro coolers, dollies, and carts) • Vehicle mileage reimbursement • Staff Costs*(food service, activity implementation, outreach) • Enrichment or educational equipment and supplies • Other related expenses that will increase participation • *Payroll records (including itemized timesheets if staff play multiple roles) are • required in order to receive any staffing reimbursements. All staffing and • operational costs MUST include a sustainability plan*
