Best Practices toBe A Vibrant Club • Long Range Plan – Where you club should be in 3 – 5 years • Set annual goal and get the buy in of the club, enter goals into Rotary Central • Hold club assemblies regularly • Communicate openly in you club • Prepare members for future roles to maintain smooth transition of leadership • Adapt your clubs bylaws to support the way your club works • Develop strong relationships within your club • Make sure all members are involved • Coach new and current members in leading • Deal with issues and problems constructively

The Story of the Rotary Club of Madison • Strive toward achieving the basics of a successful club • In the last 5 years, new members averaged 6-7 people, people leaving 7-9, membership declined 15% • Last year the Club determined that Membership Development was the top priority for the club • In 2016-2017 club has grown from 69 to 90 members • 21 new member joined towards our goal of 25 • 2 members have departed – departed net 18 members • Membership is discussed at every club meeting • Every member has committed to be involved in membership development

The Story of the Rotary Club of Madison • Last year the Club • Enhanced online presence • Updates strategic plan and bylaws • Implemented a leadership development plan • Worked on getting people to better know one another • Implemented flexibility in member participation • Stopped measuring attendance but encouraged participation and involvement • Revamped Membership Development Committee • Enhanced “new member” mentor program • Sent 14 people to Rotary Leadership Institute • Updated all policies and procedures • Identified 300 member prospects

The Story of the Rotary Club of Madison • Last year the Club • Membership Committee identified 250 member prospect • Members identified an addition 75 member prospects • Every member selected/assigned 2 prospects, every member assigned to a team of 7/8 members supervised by membership committee member • Members trained on how to ask and recruit, role play, elevator speech – participate in RLI. Membership discussed at every club meeting • Club President – needs to be an SOB or HOB • New member orientation and assimilation including fireside chat, new member orientation, mentor program, red badge program, new member check list, RLI training, involvement • Great service projects • Regular Club assemblies • Technology training

What worked, what didn’t work, what could have been done better • Leadership development – Leadership Commitment • Focus on involvement of all members • Better understanding of Rotary • Rotary topic and club assembly every 6 weeks • Involvement of members beyond the club • Try new stuff • Reduced fee for younger members • Free trail – Introductory pricing • Satisfaction guaranteed • Couples membership • Online meetings
