  1. Pronoun What is a Pronoun? Adjective: identify pronouns in sentences and distinguish between singular and plural pronouns.

  2. Snails leave trails. • They drag their tails. Make your own sill rhyme. Begin the first sentence with a noun. Begin the second sentence with a word from the list that can replace the noun. he she it we they

  3. A noun names a person, a place, or a thing. A pronoun is a word that takes the place of one or more nouns. Then you write, you do not have to keep repeating nouns. Instead, you can replace some of the nous with pronouns. Compare the two paragraphs. What pronouns take the place of the nouns.

  4. Sara asked Brett and Leah to go to the seashore with Sara. Sara, Brett, and Leah spoke to Ms. Snow. Ms. Snow gave Sara, Brett, and Leah a special book. The book was about sea life. Sara asked Brett and Leah to go to the seashore with her. They spoke to Ms. Snow. She gave them a special book. It was about sea life.

  5. Like the nouns they replace, pronouns are singular and plural • Singular Pronouns: I, me, you, he , she, her, it • Plural Pronouns: we, us, you, they, them

  6. Which words in these sentences are pronouns. • Sara said, “Come with us to the seashore.” • Leah carried a pail. She wanted to collect shells. • Brett took a notebook. Sara had asked him to take notes. • Leah saw a sea star. Brett wrote about it in his book. • “You are good scientists,” Sara told Leah and Brett.
