  2. Sierra Nevada is a fundamental part of our collective natural heritage. In 1986 it was included in the World Heritage List by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve and three years later, in 1989 it was declared a Natural Park and finally in 1999 the declaration of the Sierra Nevada National Park was reached and its inclusion In the Network of National Parks, since 2002 is part of the Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA). Situation map Sierra Nevada is situated in the southern part of the Iberian Peninsula, in the southeast of Spain facing the Mediterranean Sea, occupying part of the provinces of Granada (in the western part) and Almeria (in the eastern part). It has a length of 90km approximately and a width that varies from the 40km in its western zone and not more than 25km in the eastern part. Aquí está Sierra Nevada

  8. Las Acequias Since ancient times, the most effective system to regulate the waters of melting was the derivation by irrigation ditches of the water of the rivers to the zones of culture. Another ancestral and curious system of regulation of the waters of melting are the acequias of careo, that is not known if they are of Roman origin or Hispanic-Muslim.    By means of these ditches, the water was taken to specific areas, where the water slowly filtered, soaking the slopes, or emerging in springs, in such a way as to avoid the loss of surface water by evaporation, supplying the areas Low in the driest season, through irrigation ditches.
