  1. IBM FlashSystem Assess and Earn Business Partner incentive

  2. Program Details • Objective: To provide an incentive to collect AWR reports from End Users • This is a proven “best practice” to engage customers using Oracle databases that often leads to a trial with a very high probability of a sale. • Analysis shows where the bottlenecks are and confirms whether or not a FlashSystem will improve performance. • Customer expectations are set • Past history has shown between 80% and 90% of trials that are placed after an AWR analysis are purchased!! • The most receptive audience for the FlashSystem Extreme Performance value proposition is the Application Owners/DBAs because they “feel the pain” when critical applications are running slowly, ie user complaints, and are rewarded for performance improvements.

  3. How does it work? • Business Partners will submit AWR report to flashAWR@us.ibm.com • An IBM deal registration is not required to submit an AWR report. • It is STRONGLY recommended that you contact the rCTS assigned to you before submitting the AWR report to assure that there is not a duplicate request. Contacts listed at end of presentation. • Instructions for collecting the information that is required are contained in following slides. • The Application Owner/DBA at your End User knows what an AWR report is, you will not have to explain. However, it is very important that you collect this report according to the guidelines spelled out. • When received, the report will be assigned to an rCTS who will log and dispatch for analysis • Flash Sales Team will be notified • 72 hour turn-around time for analysis is target SLA • When analysis is complete, rCTS will notify BP so that they can schedule an appointment with End User to present results • Member of the Flash Sales or Technical team must be included in this meeting

  4. Information required when report is submitted • BP Salesperson Name ,Email Address and Phone • PartnerWorld Id • BP Company name • BP Company address • Customer Name: • Customer Contact Name: • City/State/Zip: • Country: • Division (if applicable): • Application/Project Name: • Comments: Such as critical deadlines, etc

  5. How Do You Get Points? • Sign up for KYI • Collect and submit AWR report from an End User using collection guidelines provided. • Schedule appointment to deliver results: • Member of the Flash Sales or Technical team MUST be included in this meeting. • Face to face is preferable but webinar acceptable • Points will be deposited automatically for you once BOTH steps are completed • 1200 points a $300 value !

  7. Oracle AWR Analysis Collection & Analysis Guidelines

  8. IBM FlashSystem Assessment for Oracle • Collect performance information about the customer’s Oracle environment • AWR Report (details & guidelines on next slides) • Get back to the customer with a FREE detailed performance assessment that identifies • The DB components consuming wait time – top 5 foreground/background events and their impact on overall response time • CPU Utilization, System Vs. User IO, Busy Vs. Wait Vs. Idle time etc., • Predicted improvement on response times and CPU utilization with IBM FlashSystem • Recommendations on other tuning activities that could improve overall response times • Follow up with a two week trial to demonstrate the predicted performance improvement with IBM FlashSystem

  9. Introduction to AWR What is an AWR? A FREE utility from Oracle that automatically collects DB performance statistics by default at an hourly interval • A collection of tables • A background process • A set of reports • The report is a fairly small (< 1MB) HTML file that customers can send by email • Statspackintroduced in Oracle 8i • AWR introduced in Oracle 10 • Collects a snapshot of statistics from Oracle on a preset time basis, usually one-hour, or manually with a stored procedure. • Data stored in tables in the database, Can retrieve historical data

  10. AWR Collection Guidelines • We want AWR reports with the following characteristics: • Taken during the peak workload time. If there are multiple active times with multiple types of workloads, we will accept multiple reports • Covers the least amount of time that captures the peak workload (so essentially 1 hour would be the default value). We do NOT want reports that are long periods of time that covers multiple time periods/workloads inside a single report. • If the system in question is a RAC node, we want reports for the same time period(s) for all of the nodes within the RAC cluster.
