The Battle Of Midway • Regarded as the most important naval battle of the Pacific Campaign of World War II. • Between the fourth and seventh of June 1942 • The attack took place over and near the tiny U.S. mid-Pacific base at Midway atoll.

Yamamoto Isoroku Yamamoto Isoroku was Naval Marshal General and the commander-in-chief of the Combined Fleet during World War II
Yamamoto's primary strategic concern was the elimination of America's remaining carrier forces, which he perceived as the principal obstacle to the overall Pacific campaign. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Midway Atoll being an important Navy Base, became one of their new objective and after six months of preparation, the attackbegan.
Quickly knock down Midway's defenses Invasion of the atoll's two small islands Establish a Japanese air base there
Americans superior communication intelligence • carriers ready and waiting for the Japanese on Midway atoll.
The Japanese fleet was organized in five forces: • Forward patrol • Aircraft carriers • Invasion force • Battleships • Diversion force 162 War Ships
Three aircraft carriers • Midway Island - with 115 fighters and bombers based in it, it was like a stationary but unsinkable aircraft carrier.
However after the three-day battle the Japanese force still greatly outnumbered the American force, and initially Admiral Yamamoto wanted to continue the battle, but then he realized that with the loss of the four aircraft carriers and their air units, his battleships and the invasion force became too vulnerable to American air attacks. He then decided to retreat his large Armada from Midway. The battle of Midway was over, with a great and decisive American victory.
