  1. 13.4 The Motor Principle Jim Pulickeel SPH3U1 January 2010

  2. Notes Gizmo Activities added - Archived for Vectors, Forces, Energy Work - Activities done for Electricity and Magnetism - Future Activities for Sound and Waves Start Studying For Exam - Exam not hard, easier than tests, no tricks on MC. - Level 2-3+ questions. - Read Sample Problems in Text - Start Doing Exam Review - Old Tests, Quizzes, Problem Sets. Sound Test on Last Day (before In class Exams). Grade 12 is - easier because you know what to expect. Less class distractions - Pace is same as this year. Workload is same. - Concepts build on this year at the same rate of development - (v,a 2d v, c(a),p, Elec  ca+B, II plates, fluidic motion, quatum mech. etc...

  5. Recall... N Force on Conductor S

  6. The Motor Principle A current carrying conductor that cuts across external magnetic field lines experiences a force ⊥ to both the magnetic field and the direction of the electric current. The magnitude of this force depends on the magnitude of both the external field and the current, as well as the angle between the conductor and the magnetic field it cuts across. Force (F) Current (I) Magnetic Field (β)

  16. The Electric Motor Forces acting on the wire are parallel to its orientation. Because it can not torque in that manner, their is no movement

  20. The Electric Motor Modified... Force Out of Page Weakening Force Into Page Weakening

  21. The Electric Motor Modified... There is now no contact between the wires and the commutator
