What are rational numbers? • Definition – a number that can be expressed as an integer or the quotient of two integers • This means that any number we can make into a fraction can be a rational number, this includes negative number, negative fractions, and negative decimals.

The math behind rational numbers! • Converting from fractions to decimals to percents • Finding equivalent fractions, decimals, and percents • Comparing and ordering
How to convert fractions to decimals • To convert a fraction to a decimal , you have to divide the numerator (top number) by the denominator (bottom number) , this means the top number goes under the division symbol and the bottom number goes outside the division symbol. • Example ¾ - the 3 is the numerator (top number) and the 4 is the denominator (bottom number)
How to convert decimals to percents • To convert a decimal to a percent, multiply the decimal by 100, or move the decimal two places to the right and add the percent sign.
How to find equivalent fractions • The easy way to make equivalent fractions is to multiply the numerator and denominator by the same number • Equivalent Fractions • http://www.shodor.org/interactivate/activities/EquivFractionFinder/
