Ex: matching candlesticks on a mantel. • Variety – combining different styles & materials in a room, but not too much, like 3 styles of furniture, this can create confusion.

  7. Maintain living space • Proportion – relates in size • Rhythm – regular repetition of line, shape, color, or texture creates this. • Unity – feeling that all objects in the room belong together. • Rearranging the furniture is the easiest way to create the “feel” of more space in a room.

  8. Enhance living space • To help a young child become more organized in their bedroom, use bright color storage boxes. • When you are not able to put away your clothes properly in a dresser drawer, one will need more storage space to protect your clothes.

  9. Enhance living space • Elements of design: to help bring harmony to the space • Color, line, shape (design), and texture(the way it feels like fuzzy pillows) • To create a calming effect use light blue and white. Also light blue will make a room appear larger. • focal point – an item that draws attention when entering into a room.

  10. Maintain living space • Be creative in coming up with new ways to store items in a home. Ex: A teacher could hang up a shoe bag in a classroom to keep graphing calculators in. • Compartmentalization – divide space in the closet or drawers into smaller categories and designate a place for each type of item.

  11. Maintain living space • To hang necklaces beside a dresser mirror one could use hooks, this would help with decoration and storage. • To make a room appear smaller uses dark colors. • Primary colors are: blue, red & yellow

  12. Maintain living space • Horizontal lines can make a ceiling appear lower. • Accessories in a bedroom are items like pillows, pictures, and lamp. Extra items to help with decorating a room. In a bathroom it would be items like candle, pictures, or toothbrush holder
