  4. The first principle is that you must not fool yourself and you are the easiest person to fool. After you've not fooled yourself, it's easy not to fool other people. You just have to be honest in a conventional way after that. “Just think of the tragedy of teaching children not to doubt” Richard Feynman This links to work by Lindsey McLoughlin and others. Police officers were asked to make predictions about future crime in different parts of their area. The key result was that their confidence was absolutely no guide to their accuracy.

The Observer - 16th September 2012 Millions of employees in the private sector have learnt that there is no longer such a thing as a "job for life“, while millions in the public sector have been challenged to justify their existence. Working practices have been revolutionised; organisations radically restructured; pay and conditions dramatically changed. Teachers, nurses, ambulance drivers, doctors, local authority workers and fire-fighters have all felt bracing blasts of government-driven change. The big exception has been the police.
