What is the 14th Amendment? • All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

  7. How to become a citizen of the united states • By Soil- any person born in any of the 50 states, Washington DC, or any of the US Territories. • By Blood- if a person is born in another country, but their parents are US citizens

  8. Requirements to become a Naturalized citizen of the united states • Must be 18 or older • Must have been a lawful resident for 5 years (have green card) • Must be able to read, write, and speak English • Must be of good moral character • Must show understanding of US Civics

  12. Losing Citizenship • Expatriation: someone who gives their allegiance to another country • Denaturalization: naturalized citizens who lied can be deported • Being convicted of certain crimes: treason, rebellion, or trying to overthrow the government by violent means.
