  5. Shelf-talkers • Gale has a series of ‘Shelf Talkers’ that can easily be inserted between the books on your shelves. • When placed within the relevant section, Shelf Talkers are designed to encourage your patrons to consider using your Gale databases for additional information. • Shelf Talkers are flexible (laminated paper), reuseable and best of all FREE! And what’s more; they take up no additional shelving space. • Available for all Gale databases, the Gale Shelf Talkers are an easy way to increase your database usage. 7. Widgets • Widgets Gale’s new customizable widgets are simple but powerful tools that generate short HTML code to be placed directly into any page on your Web site. Most widgets also provide an option for adding to your Facebook profile and iGoogle pages. These are a great way of directing more users to your Gale online resources. For more information about widgets and how to set them up for your library, please visit http://access.gale.com/widgets/ Research with Gale customers in the US has shown a 60% increase in usage for libraries that have implemented widgets. 8. Bookmarks • Bookmarks are also available for the majority of our online databases including Digital Archives. Alternatively the PDF’s are available for your library to produce collateral in-house and brand with your own logo. EPIC Presentation LIANZA November 2011.

  9. Green Screens and Screen Savers • Screensaver files are a way of advertising your online resources on your public computers or big screen TV’s. We can customize the files to suit your library, including your logo. It is important to advise us of your screen size so that the files are created with the correct number of pixels to ensure quality viewing. • Green screens are a useful way of advertising your online resources at conferences or meetings. Similar to a screen saver but designed for a big advertising space! EPIC Presentation LIANZA November 2011.

  10. In Context MARC records • Traditional MARC records are title-specific. With In Context, the MARC records are subject-specific. • The records include subject headings from Gale’s controlled vocabulary, which is registered with the Library of Congress, in addition to LC subjects. Gale subject headings will be keyword-searchable in the OPACs if they are retained in the records. EPIC Presentation LIANZA November 2011.

  11. Display competitions • Auckland City Libraries & Gale held a very successful display competition throughout the Central & Community Libraries. • Benefits were: • Staff became very familiar with one resource so did not feel overwhelmed having to learn about a large amount of databases all at once. • Customers asked about what the display was about, so it encouraged conversation about the libraries online resources. • Links were made between the libraries print collection and online resources. • Interlibrary rivalry resulted in some amazing displays! EPIC Presentation LIANZA November 2011.

  12. Identifying key content for your customers!Micromarketing. • Special Libraries – select a handful or key journals and highlight these publications on your intranet or feature in a newsletter. • School Libraries – find out which novel Year 10 will be studying and create a reading list of critical essays and work overviews from Literature Resource Centre. • Public Libraries – find out which sporting titles are full-text in General OneFile, if you also subscribe to the hardcopy why not have a “See Also” reference at the shelves, if the issue is on loan, a customer can look online for articles of interest. A customer wants the Consumer magazine, why not also direct them to “Choice” the Australian equivalent – available in General OneFile. EPIC Presentation LIANZA November 2011.
