  2. 22 October 1641 – Irish rebellion An important cause of growing tensions between King and Parliament.Rumours that 20,000 Protestants had been killed. Who would raise an army to deal with the rebellion?Parliament had to remain sitting in order to raise funds for the proposed military expedition.

  3. November 1641 John Pym introduced the Grand Remonstrance into Parliament Demand that the King employ only Ministers approved by Parliament Parliament approved it by 159 to 148 votes on 22 November 1641. Published before the King had responded to its contents.

  5. 5 March 1642: Parliament passed the Militia Ordinance allowing troops to be raised only under officers approved by Parliament.June 1642: Parliament issued the Nineteen propositions – asking for control of his advisers, religious reform. Within three weeks, the King had rejected them.
