  1. 6-1.1 Explain the characteristics of hunter-gatherer groups and their relationship to the natural environment.

  2. ENVIRONMENT Where do we live? What resources do we have? What are my responsibilities?

  3. What are hunter-gatherer communities? • A hunter-gatherer community is a group that gets its food from hunting wild animals and gathering wild plants. • Hunter-gatherers were very mobile, or nomadic.

  4. DISCUSSION • Discuss the following with your partner: • What types of animals do you think they hunted? • What types of plants did they gather?

  5. How did hunter-gatherers adapt to the natural environment?

  6. 1. These societies migrated to follow and hunt wild animals.

  7. 2. They used simple tools made from stone and animals bones to construct temporary shelters.

  8. 3. They were able to make clothing from animal skins.

  9. What advances in technology did hunter-gatherers make?

  16. What was the impact of discovering fire? • Fire was used for protection from wild animals. • Fire allowed humans to stay warm in colder environments. • Fire also allowed hunter-gatherers to cook their food allowing humans to have bigger brains.
