What is the Recreational Vehicle Manufacturing Association of Australia (RVM Australia)? • Peak body for Australia’s RV manufacturing industry • Successor to RVMAA • Became a public company limited by guarantee • Represents over 90% of major Australian RV manufacturers • Not supportive of protectionism. • Does support open and fair competition.

  4. What does RVM Australia do? • Operates a mandatory member product compliance program • Training and technology development • Engages at a national level with government and regulators

  5. How many RVs are produced by Australian manufacturers each year? • In 2010 production reached a 30-year record high of 21,000 units and it has maintained a comparable level for the ensuing two years.

  7. How many RVs are produced by Australian manufacturers each year? • Australian RV production on a per capita basis is higher than the USA which produces some 265,000 units per annum.

  8. What is the size of the Australian RV manufacturing industry? • Turnover of new RVs is some $1.1 billion per annum (inclusive of components and spare parts) and it employs some 10,000 individuals.

  9. What does the RVM Australia badge represent? • Members’ assurance of compliance and safety • Consumers can buy with confidence • RVM Australia is dedicated to continuous improvement

  10. In the past • Formerly, 6-monthly inspections • Did not address the RVs produced in between the 6-monthly cycle • Comprehensive product compliance review undertaken in 2012

  11. The new compliance program (RVMAP) • Officially launched by the Federal Minister for Road Safety on 3 April 2013 • Rolled out in late April 2013 • First cycle of inspections completed • Review the program, make changes and commence the second cycle • Mandatory member accreditation program

What is RVMAP? • Review involving considerable member involvement • Aims to achieve a “level playing field” • Manufactured in accordance with relevant ADRs, Standards and RVMA Australia’s Codes of Practice • Built to the highest standards • Important plank as peak body for Australia’s RV manufacturing industry • Mandatory member accreditation program

  13. 100% of all product manufactured by members • Focuses on manufacturer involvement together with automation [CHECKLIST GRAPHIC HERE] • Recognises other quality systems such as ISO • Strengthens RVM Australia’s credibility and influence • Provides greater support to manufacturers

  14. RVMAP key elements RVMAP is an integrated program for accreditation and compliance of the RVs built. It’s key elements cover: 1Communication, Education & Training 2 Tools & Staff 3 Assessment 4 Document Management (eg automation) 5 Accreditation of Manufacturers 6 Program Governance 7 Industry Representation 8 Component Suppliers

  15. RVMAP is a business systems process • RVMAP does not simply rely solely on the physical inspection of insufficient product. • RVMAP places a heavy emphasis on relevant business and systems processes.

OUTPUTS • Improved industry standards • Consistent standard of RVs produced • Better-informed RV manufacturer members • Increased regulatory influence • Increased consumer confidence for RVs fitted with the RVM Australia badge • Credibility with federal government in establishing a “level playing field” for Australia RV manufacturers and importers of RV product • INPUTS • Australian Design Rules (ADRs), Standards and RVM Australia Codes of Practice • RVMAP is an integrated accreditation program including: • Education and tools • Business and system processes • Document management with automation • Physical inspections of finished RVs
