Strategic Alignment • The Importance and the need to strengthen EU-Lebanese Collaborations. • In view of increasing opportunities for Lebanese stakeholder & researchers: Future Horizons and Perspectives for Lebanese Researchers. • Bearing in mind the research landscape in Lebanon (Where 80% of Research in Lebanon takes place at the Universities) & key priority areas for Lebanon

A National Network of NCPs in Lebanon (2013)Nominated through the the support of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Lebanon NCP & INCO Coordinator: National Council for Scientific Research – Lebanon (Dr. Hamze & Ms. Atweh) Thematic NCPs: Universities committed to Research, Development and Innovation and part of EU networking and programmes • Environment NCP (Dr. Oueini – Université Saint- Esprit de Kaslik) • Health NCP (Dr. Homeidan – American University of Beirut • Energy NCP (Dr. Mougharbel – Lebanese University) • ICT NCP (Dr. Nashaat Mansour – Lebanese American University) • SME NCP (Dr. Nicolas Rouhana – Berytech/Saint Joseph University)

Lebanese Participation in FP7 • 19 Projects with 21 Lebanese Partner Institutions • Partners: Universities & Public Institutions • AUB (6 Projects) / CNRS (5 Projects) / USJ & Berytech (2 Projects) / UoB (2 Projects) / Other (5 Projects). • A qualitative shift in type of Participation • Passive to Active Participation • Leadership in 2 Projects • INCAM: Improving National Assessment and Monitoring Capacities for Integrated Environmental and Coastal ecosystem Management (CNRS-L) • LEB’IN: Lebanon-Europe "on boarding" to innovate and enhance research links in health. (USJ/Berytech)

  5. List of Foreseen Actions (First Half of 2014) • Launch of Horizon 2020 (MED Launch in Cairo; Similar Event to be planned in Beirut) • NCP Training of Trainers (Events like these! ) • Training For Lebanese Researchers * 1st Training (Feb) – Funding Opportunities and Grants Writing (TEMPUS) • Lebanese National NCP Portal (Information and Call Dissemination)

  6. OBJECTIVES • Disseminate H2020 Guidance • Encourage Local Research Actors to actively participate. (Tighten the links between local actors) • Searching for Lebanese and European Partners (Regional Linkages)

  7. TARGET COMMUNITIES • Academics and Research Centres • Local Providers for Research Solutions • SMEs, Incubators • Ministries • Non Profit Organizations

  8. Key Constraint Budget & Visibility • Support through EU Projects - Capacity Building; particularly for training events. • Previous Events held within the framework of: MIRA / LEB’IN / INCAM & MEDSPRINGProjects / TEMPUS • Support needed particularly for Experts & Training Costs • Local Training Costs (Hosting Institution) • Lebanese NCP Portal (Visibility)
