Advancements in 3D Object Recognition and Classification Through Shading and Texture Analysis

This research explores innovative approaches for object recognition and classification using 3D structure derived from texture and shading. Collaborators from KU Leuven, University of Utrecht, and Inria, among others, investigate the geometrical interpretations of shade, shadow, and contour for Lambertian surfaces. The focus includes production of versatile programs for enhancement in human-computer communication, especially for aging and disabled individuals. By addressing conflicting cues in shading and contour, the study aims to improve perceptual learning and action recognition.
