Amelia Earhart By: Emma What happened to her on her flight?
History of Amelia Earhart • Amelia Earhart was born July 24, 1897 • She got interested in flying when she saw her first plane at a state fair. • Amelia was the first woman to fly across the Atlantic ocean. • Soon, she decided she wanted to be the first woman to fly around the world.
History of Amelia Earhart • Amelia Earhart tried to complete a flight around the world but disappeared unexpectedly. • She disappeared around New Guinea over the Pacific Ocean on July 2nd 1937. • No one has ever found out what happened to her or her plane.
More Background • People want to know what happened to Amelia because she was such a talented woman and we respected her. • Still today, people want to know, “Did she survive?” • Her plane, the Electra, is said to be at the bottom of an ocean. They have found bones on small islands. We have also found articles of clothing.
Science Fiction Theories • Some people think she got shot down near Japan and was either jailed or executed. • People even think she committed suicide.
Scientific Explanation • Because of clothing and bones found on an island, some people think she successfully landed on the island and continued to live. • People think she altered her course because of strong winds. She might have simply landed somewhere else. • The most likely happening is that she crashed in the Pacific and since it is such a big ocean, she was never found.
Your Reasoned Judgment • I believe that Amelia Earhart found a small island and landed there. I think she continued to live there with her navigator, Fred Noonan. • I believe this because she was an experienced person. She would have known that she had to land the plane. She would have known how to survive there.
