  2. PEACE THEOLOGY 101 Introduction to Peace Theology. This course will help the students to appreciate and to evaluate a biblical understanding and contemporary practice of Peace Theology. Such evaluation will be done within the framework of social sciences and informed from the perspective of biblical theology. The students will be intellectually, emotionally, and volitionally involved in the current discussions on the meanings, proposals, and tasks of Peace Theology. PEACE THEOLOGY 101

ECONOMIC-ECOLOGICAL TRANSFORMATION The process of profound and radical change that orients our means of livelihood and our management of creation in a new direction, and takes it to an entirely different level of sustainability, in accordance with the values of the kingdom of God—like love, justice, peace, and stewardship.

  6. STRUCTURED EXPERIENCE: DYNAMICS OF THE GLOBAL MARKET

  7. Discussion: “Redemption and salvation apply to both the individual person and the whole creation.” :: What is your understanding of the above statement? :: Do you agree with it? Why? Why not? Read Genesis 3:17-19. In your own words, re-tell the story how the creation was originally “subjected to frustration.” In what sense are we one with the creation?

  8. The world treats God’s creation in a mechanical-utilitarian way. What does this mean? The Word views God’s creation in an organic-relational way—that is, our earth-house is a house of life and must be treated with loving care! What does this mean to you? The world views the human person merely as a “consumer-in-the-marketplace.” How does this affect your “economic self-image”? How does this affect your spending habit? How does this affect your ability to give?

  9. The Word views the human person as an “individual-in-the-community.” How does this affect your “economic self-image”? How does this affect your spending habit? How does this affect your ability to give? How should the Church of Jesus Christ in your locality move as an agent of economic-ecological transformation in your context?

  10. GLOBALIZATION Globalization denotes the processes through which sovereign national states are criss-crossed and undermined by trans-national actors with varying prospects of power, orientations, identities and networks. This process is irreversible.

  12. A CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE OF GLOBALIZATION 1. Globalization is the prevailing socio-economic process by which nationality and national governments are increasingly becoming irrelevant. It radically impacts both human life and the environment that supports it.

  13. A CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE OF GLOBALIZATION 2. God, who is sovereign over world history, has delegated to humanity the stewardship of creation (Genesis 1:27-28) and has called the followers of Jesus Christ—the called out ones—to be an agent of change in the world (Matthew 5:13-16).

  14. A CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE OF GLOBALIZATION 3. Globalization affects the structures of power and influence in economics, politics and social life, culture and religious life. The followers of Jesus Christ are challenged to relate biblical truth to all aspects of life, including all the perspectives and practices affected by globalization. Jesus’ followers must reject a global culture dominated by materialistic values.

  15. A CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE OF GLOBALIZATION 4. God is active in the world, working out the Divine purposes even in and through globalization. Globalization opens up many opportunities, especially through the dramatic changes in the technologies of communications and information. The followers of Jesus Christ should consider the opportunities opened up by globalization and discern how these may be used for the glory of God.

  16. A CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE OF GLOBALIZATION 5. Globalization has the potential to offer unprecedented freedom that could break down many barriers to human activity. However, in its present materialistic and predatory form, it tends to disproportionately benefit the rich and the powerful. Globalization promotes a “level playing field” with no barriers, but with vastly unequal competitors.

  17. A CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE OF GLOBALIZATION 6. Therefore, as followers of Jesus Christ, we are challenged to resist aspects of globalization that exploit the poor and ruin the environment. We should support economic policies characterized by justice and oriented towards the well-being of all and which protect the welfare of the weak, the marginalized and poor.
