  10. The role of the TRTO www.cstberlin.de

  11. The role of the TRTO • 4 Level D Full Flight Simulators • TRTO for CRJ and AVRORJ • providing type rating related simulator training including operator requirements • and specific SOPs to: • large European regional operators • African, Middle East and eastern European CRJ operators • business jet operators and individuals CST Berlin CityLine Canadair Simulator und Training GmbH CityLine AVRO Simulator und Training GmbH CRJ 200 CRJ 700/900 CRJ 200/900 AVRO RJ 85 www.cstberlin.de

  12. The role of the TRTO • pilots with different background, culture and experience • different companies with or without own SOP • providing for example: • type rating training • captains upgrading • low visibility training • licence and operator prof. checks • instructor training • 3 year refresher programs acc. IOSA • .... www.cstberlin.de

  14. What is the Standard in the SOP ? Who wants to have a say on how to operate an airplane ? SOPs ? Operator ? www.cstberlin.de

  15. Content The role of the TRTO What is the Standard in the SOPs ? Is this a training issue ? Generic or specific type training ? Challenges Benefits Lessons learned, future considerations www.cstberlin.de

  16. Is this a training issue ? - Training for proficiency • For more and more pilots: • The simulator is seen as an aerodynamic entity : • abnormals and emergencies happen. The aircraft on line is seen as an economic entity : operational items have to be dealt with. www.cstberlin.de

  17. Is this a training issue ? www.cstberlin.de

  18. Is this a training issue ? • - Training for proficiency • As training providers we have to balance this view • One way of doing this can be to introduce the operators SOPs into the type rating training • and of course more so into the recurrent and proficiency training for their pilots. • Most operator integrated TRTOs do this for themselves already. • For independent TRTOs however to do this has its challenges www.cstberlin.de

  19. Content The role of the TRTO What is the Standard in the SOPs ? Is this a training issue ? Generic or specific type training ? Challenges Benefits Lessons learned, future considerations www.cstberlin.de

  20. Generic or specific type training ? • Training for proficiency : generic or specific type training ? • genericoroperatorspecifictraining: • type rating ? • low visibility operation ? • upgrading ? • refresher and recurrent training ? www.cstberlin.de

  21. Content The role of the TRTO What is the Standard in the SOPs ? Is this a training issue ? Generic or specific type training ? Challenges Benefits Lessons learned, future considerations www.cstberlin.de

  22. Challenges of training various SOPs Operator challenges : • different regions • different authorities • passenger airline, cargo, and business jet operators • close link with operators : • operator training department links • audits and evaluations • training conferences • feedback and follow up www.cstberlin.de

  23. Challenges of training various SOPs • The training material challenge customized syllabi operators manuals checklists performance calculation differences aircraft equipment differences .... trust and confidence www.cstberlin.de

  24. Challenges of training various SOPs • - Planning process challenge introduction of elements into the training that are not part of the minimum requirements by FCL individual training footprints and layouts for different operators, adds complexity to the course design, marketing ,planning and business processes more coordination between training provider and operator necessary because of the different content and scope of training www.cstberlin.de

  25. Challenges of training various SOPs • The biggest challenge :the instructor • qualification ? • how to prepare ? • oversight, feedback ? • manuals, forms ? • scoring and grading ? • information flow ? www.cstberlin.de

  26. Challenges of training various SOPs • The biggest challenge : the instructor • We face this challenge with : • only highly experienced pilot instructors on type (also for the theoretical phase) • instructors must have enough free capacity to adapt to the different SOPs • freelance instructors active with various operators • web based documentation and planning access for instructors • instructor standardization meetings in-house on regular basis • documentation preparation and course progress monitoring through CST training department specialists www.cstberlin.de

  27. Content The role of the TRTO What is the Standard in the SOPs ? Is this a training issue ? Generic or specific type training ? Challenges Benefits Lessons learned, future considerations www.cstberlin.de

  28. Benefits • for the training provider • staying up to date on type training issues • closer customer link • constant overview over different procedures and techniques resulting in best practices • constant challenge for the instructor force • closer loop to keep training devices up to operator requirements • being able to help operators to develop procedures • higher quality of training delivered • for the operator and the pilots • streamlined • customized • less training during supervision • outsourcing training and checks without loosing quality • quality feedback on training issues through external instructors • developing procedures with help from training provider • higher quality of training received www.cstberlin.de

  31. Lessons learned, future cosiderations Over all these concepts lets not forget that we do train individual humans in their role as pilots www.cstberlin.de
