  3. Recruitment & Organising Organising recruitment aspects within the organisation:Remember: this presentation is a reflection of our recruitment system! Important to realise that military personnel in the Netherlands have strong Unions and have far more rights than in most countries in Europe!

Recruitment & Organising • Organising recruitment aspects within the organisation:- Development of a vision document by the board • - Vision document being set during a union meeting with the members • - Vision document also holds aspects for recruitment like: Intent / Ambition level /Targets / Resources/ Timeframe

Steering on Cost Center / Type of Cost • In the Netherlands there is tough competition among • Military Unions! • There are nine Military Unions in the Netherlands!

Recruitment & Organising • Organising recruitment aspects within the organisation:- Board and Branch / Section managers receive lists each month with overview of members (see next slide) • The organisation can be streamlined and adapted to increase the chances of success - Depending on the circumstances in the Netherlands & the success of campaigning (cost / benefits analysis)

Recruitment & Organising • Is successful recruitment, a simple calculation? • A simple calculation? • - Our goals at board level are strongly linked to the targets of the Dutch MOD NL on recruitment. • Target for set for 2010 is 7000 new recruits! • - Our ambition at board level is >30% recruited for the AFMP/FNV and the MAR/FNV in 2010.

Recruitment & Organising • Is successful recruitment, a simple calculation? • No conscripts in the Dutch Armed Forces • Soldiers and Corporals leave before 30 / 32 years • Constant attention from the Recruitment Coordinator to find new opportunities to recruit more members • - Reporting by the Recruitment Coordinator to the Union Chairman

Recruitment & Organising • Organising recruitment aspects within the organisation:Our working group collects all the data from the MODin a early stage: • - When and where are big (military) events planned? • - Planning off major university / school information gathering events • - Is there also MOD / Police / Fire Services present?

Recruitment & Organising • Organising recruitment aspects within the organisation:- Recruitment and promotion are closely linked to each other • Member benefits (Goodies) are of great importance, but cost a lot of money • Therefore member benefits and representation costs are monthly on the board agenda

Recruitment & Organising • Organising recruitment aspects within the organisation:- Strong instrument is: member-by-member recruitment * We also let our members do the promotion (in our magazines, Website and promotion days) • - Organising special events where members and special Guests / VIP’s get a change to communicate!- Most imported for us is: what do our members want?
